Brief Festival invited The Magazine Club to contribute to its new edition and we decided to make it in our own way, speaking about print magazines directly with their editors. If you missed it do not worry, here’s the first Q&A, this one with James Cartwright, editor of London-based magazine Weapons of Reason.

Driven by a desire to better understand and articulate the global challenges shaping our world, Weapons of Reason takes its name from a quote by emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius that goes “Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present”. The mission is making complex subjects more accessible and then turning knowledge into action.

“One of the reasons why we wanted to make the magazine is that we feel like a lot of news, media, it doesn’t give you sufficient context to really understand what goes on in the world, so you often read news and stories in isolation, they don’t necessarily tell you the history of that thing, they don’t explore the widest context…”
—James Cartwright
